About this book
The relationship between the French sculptors Auguste Rodin and Camille Claudel was one of the most artistically fruitful and passionate turn-of-the-century love affairs. When they first met in 1883, Rodin was forty-four and Claudel was a promising sculptress of twenty. Two years later, having moved into his atelier, she became Rodin?s most trusted co-worker, his mistress and muse. Although Claudel found her own artistic style, she never experienced fame and success.

The author, a Rodin specialist, describes the interplay of passion, creativity, self-destruction, and aesthetic development which formed this artistic relationship and critically investigates its finally tragic circumstances.
